Kitchen Measurement Conversions

Recipes don't agree on units. A cookbook from London calls for grams and millilitres. Your grandmother's index card just says "a cup" of shortening, no further explanation. Something you found online halves every quantity, and now you're doing fraction math on a third of two-thirds of a cup at 11pm. This site exists so you don't have to.

The calculator below converts by volume, weight, length, temperature and speed. It handles the whole range, from gallons down to milliliters, including the fraction-cup sizes (⅓ cup especially) that never land on a round number. Pick what you've got, pick what you need, and it converts in both directions.

A conversion is only half the job, though. A cup of flour can weigh anywhere from 4 to 6 ounces depending on how you scoop it, and an oven set to 350°F is a different dial setting in a UK recipe. The guides further down cover those traps in detail, with tables you can screenshot and numbers worked out by hand.

How the numbers work

This calculator is built and maintained directly, not licensed from a publisher. Every factor traces back to a standard definition: the US customary gallon, the international avoirdupois pound, the exact 25.4 mm inch. Where a figure on this site is rounded for readability, the calculator itself still gives you the fuller number. More about the site.
